Environment
Today a major issue in our society lies
in the over-use of power consumption. To
minimise the use of power resources, we
supply energy efficient solutions and
provide audits on how your organisation
can improve the environment and save on
power costs.
Our unique approach to energy management
is to facilitate and create a programme
that can be
rolled out to any of a client's sites at
a relatively low cost with maximum
return.
Sustainability Objectives
Swan Services are currently in the
process of obtaining certification under
the Environmental Management Systems –
ISO 14001:1996.
We’ve taken steps to address both the
general and site-specific environmental
concerns inherent in the cleaning
industry. We are striving to maximize
our contribution to solving the specific
challenges of our clients in this
ever-growing important area of concern.
Swan Services are committed to providing
superior environmental management
practices.
We are also focused on alleviating the
detrimental effects of old chemical
usage by developing a “beyond compliance
strategy”. This strategy has seen Swan
form a strategic alliance with Solo Pak,
Portion control Chemicals of Queensland.

As part of our strategy, Swan are
continually looking to improve our
cleaning performance. All employees have
a responsibility to assist in minimizing
our environmental impact and preventing
pollution. A rigorous training program
involving an induction and follow up
on-site training helps to achieve this
aim.
Swan understands the importance of a
“healthy environment” for both current
and future generations and we strive to
operate our business in a long-term
sustainable manner.
Swan will follow
the current IS01011: 1996, Environmental
Management Standard.
In order to demonstrate our commitment
to reducing waste and emissions from
your site, we will utilise the current
waste hierarchy and modify it to address
the following requirements:
Remove
Reduce
Reuse
Recycle
Replace
Promote awareness across all our
operations
Our Environmental
Obligations Include:
Resources: Swan will conserve resources
through all processes by improving
resource efficiency.
Target: Increase recycling by 10% per
annum. Decrease resource usage per $
value of sales by 5% per annum.
Energy: Swan will reduce energy use
(electricity)
Target: 5% per annum reduction of
electrical consumption.

Waste: Swan will constantly strive to
reduce our waste and maximize resource

We’ve also implemented successful
recycling programs on some of our major
sites and are trialing the use of ENJO’s
environmentally friendly products in an
effort to eliminate to use of chemicals,
where possible.
At Swan we understand the imperative
nature of forming a synergy with you the
client in order to achieve a successful
outcome. As a result, it is useful, if
regular meetings are held to discuss
future projects and the management of
any environmental initiatives introduced
on your sites.
The initiatives introduced, will depend
on each site requirement and will be
consistently monitored. Our staff are
instructed to conserve energy and as a
result turn lights, heating and/or air
conditioning off where appropriate.
Product Management
Our staff are instructed to label any
bottles and where possible to avoid
using chemicals. We endeavor to only use
environmentally friendly products.
Each site is assessed for its specific
requirements in products and services.
Only when strictly necessary as in the
case of older style floors do we use
chemicals.
Swan observes the following guidelines
where appropriate:-
Replacing chemicals with the use of
alternatives
Reducing the use of plastic and other
non-biodegradable products (we are in
the process of introducing recycling on
all our major sites)
Using recycled products where possible
Ensuring that energy is conserved.
Promoting water efficiencies and
identifying opportunities to conserve
water
Water
Restrictions
Our staff are trained to conserve water.
We hose in accordance with requirements
and current legislation to ensure that
there is no waste.
Daily reporting of leaking taps, toilets
and urinals
Conserving water where possible by
utilising micro-fibre technology,
thereby reducing the usage of chemicals
Using auto scrubbers instead of pressure
washers or hosing on foyers and
surrounds
Promote the use of waterless urinals by
advocating the use of bacteria eating
pellets such as Desert Rose and
Propagate. |
