OCCUPATIONAL
HEALTH & SAFETY POLICY
Swan’s Risk Management, Occupational
Health and Safety Policy is based on the
well being of our employees, our clients
and the general public and is therefore
a major consideration in all our
activities.
Swan’s policy can
be summarised as follows:
“We recognise our responsibility for
providing the safest possible working
conditions for our employees and require
them to comply with basic safety rules.
We also recognise our responsibilities
for the property and safety of our
clients and the general public.”
This policy imposes responsibilities on
all our employees.
In particular employees must:
Report all injuries and hazards
Report all damages to property
Ensure the necessary safety equipment is
used when necessary and protective
clothing is worn, if required
Comply with supervisors’ instructions
Ensure all areas are left clean and tidy
All supervisors
must ensure that:
1. Compliance with requirements laid
down by State authorities, legislation
and regulations
2. Safe and healthy working conditions
are provided and maintained
3. Safe working methods are developed,
promulgated, implemented and monitored
on a regular basis
4. Close attention is given to the
selection and placement of employees to
enable them to perform their work with
motivation and safety in a risk free
environment
5. The training of employees is such
that they understand thoroughly and
always use safe procedures in all phases
of their work. On site training is on
going and closely monitored.
6. Employees at all times are trained to
comply with safety rules and the need
for safe working practices
7. Immediate first-aid treatment of any
accident is arranged and positive
measures undertaken to rehabilitate
employees suffering from lost time
injuries
8. Provision of translation services for
employees from non-English speaking
backgrounds
MANAGEMENT
COMMITMENT & EXPERTISE
The Managing Director and the General
Manager (Legal & Human Resources) take
an active role in the development of new
policies and procedures; the monitoring
of compliance of these policies and the
management of all workplace incidents,
accidents, near misses or injuries.
The General Manager (Legal & Human
Resources) is directly responsible for
the management and carriage of all
workplace injuries, worker’s
compensation claims and return to work
programmes.
To assist in the compliance with and
monitoring of policies Swan has a full
time OH&S and Quality Assurance Manager.
Our Manager has been trained and
approved as a “Return to Work Co-ordinator”
and is involved in regular on-going
training in Quality Assurance Management
Systems and Work Place Safety practices.
Management is supported by the extensive
use of external OH&S Consultants. These
consultants provide ongoing advice in
the development of policies and
procedures, return to work programmes,
site audits, appraisals and where
necessary, full rehabilitation
provision.
Allied to the above, is the Continuing
Education Programme Swan uses to ensure
that Operational Managers and
Supervisors are comprehensively trained
and kept up to date, in the area of OH&S
and Work Place Safety.
All members of our Senior Management
team are actively involved in our
customer service and customer relations.
This involvement is evidenced by:-
1. the review of all customer complaints
at the weekly senior management meeting;
2. the constant visiting by the Managing
Director to sites;
3. the ability of clients to contact
members of senior management at all
times;
4. an internal E-mail system which
directs copies of all client E-mails to
the desk of the Managing Director and
others in Senior Management team.
All personnel are required to co-operate
in preventing accidents and damage to
property. The whole approach to the
administration of the Occupational
Health and Safety Policy should stem
from a team effort between Supervisors,
Employees and Clients.
Accidents resulting in personal injury
or damage to equipment and materials
represent needless waste and suffering.
Therefore, it is essential that all
supervisors and employees recognise the
social and economic need for Risk
Control Management.
